Healthy Snack Ideas

Finding healthy snacks can be a challenge when shopping. Walking from aisle to aisle of cholesterol and fat-laden foods can be downright frustrating … and tempting. You may not have realized that there ARE healthy alternatives to satisfy your cravings.

Snacks can be a healthy part of your diet if you know what you eat. It can be beneficial to squeeze out some of the much-needed nutrients that may be lacking in your diet or reduce feelings of hunger between meals.

It’s important to remember that snacks are only healthy when you control what you eat, how much you eat, and how often. Snacks should contain a minimum of three snacks per day, at 200 calories or less per snack. Try to include 2 or more food groups per snack, and keep the portion size small. If you feel the need to eat more often throughout the day, try to satisfy your hunger by drinking water or herbal teas (without all-natural additives). Resist the urge to eat something if you’re bored, tired, or upset, which is when most people tend to overeat—combat by engaging in a practical activity such as exercising, writing, reading, etc.

Less than 100 calories:

Oikos Peach Mango Greek Yogurt (Fat-Free) 100g

My favorite snack (or dessert) is Oikos Fat-Free Yogurt because it is fat-free and has a rich, creamy taste. Yogurt comes in a variety of different fruit flavors, with pieces of fruit at the bottom of the cup. My favorite is Peach Mango, but it is important to compare the labels as some may contain more fat.

Fresh / Canned / Frozen Fruit 1 cup

Fruits are nature’s best food and are rich in essential nutrients and vitamins. I recommend one or more of the following fruits: melon, berries (cherries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries), grapes, bananas, pears, apples, and oranges.

Microwave Popcorn Air (Low Fat) 2 Cups: Now you can eat something healthy when you curl up with a blanket and your favorite movie. Remember that popcorn is not unhealthy unless you smother it with shortening or fatty flavorings. If you must use melted butter, make sure it’s low-fat margarine and use a minimal amount.

Mixed Green Salad and 1 Tablespoon of Low-Fat Salad Dressing

You generally can’t find lean dressings in the salad dressing aisle, but in the same aisle as fresh produce. Some salad dressings will have different nutritional values, so make sure you know how much to use based on calories and fat content. Bolthouse’s low-fat Caesar and ranch yogurt toppings are my all-time favorites.

Low-Fat Cottage Cheese ¼ cup: Cottage cheese is one of my all-time favorite snacks, but it can taste milder with less fat. Try sprinkling some Mrs. Dash, eating it with a celery stalk, or mixing in some fruits or vegetables.

Cookies 4 each

Did someone say cookies? Of course! Cookies are not entirely bad, but most flavors should definitely be avoided. Try gingerbread cookies, arrowroot, or graham cracker cookies.

Low-salt pretzels 18 grams or 30 spins: Low-salt pretzels are a must-have for any healthy medicine cabinet, as high-sodium foods are a recipe for heart problems. These low sodium pretzels are so tasty that I guarantee you won’t miss all that salt.

Less than 200 calories:

Slice whole grain bread 1

This is the best healthy snack idea, In any low-fat diet, it is important to have the habit of eating whole wheat or whole wheat bread, since white bread is very rich in fat. Flatbreads like Pitas, Naan or Roti are also good alternatives for people who don’t like whole-wheat bread. Try eating a slice of bread with 1 tablespoon of hummus or peanut butter.

Melba Toast & Tuna: For fish lovers, tuna is abundant in nutrients that most of us just don’t have enough of. Try eating 2 Melba Toast cookies or 7 whole grains with light canned tuna.

English muffin and low-fat cheese: Most people tell me that cheese is what they miss most when dieting. Luckily for you, you can still eat a little. Low-fat cheese comes in various styles, although I recommend buying the strongest / strongest low-fat cheddar cheese available. Because low-fat cheese is naturally softer, strong cheddar gives it the much-needed flavor. Try 1 English muffin with low-fat cheese, melted if you prefer.

So these healthy snack ideas are more helpful for you and your body health, you can eat these healthy snacks.
